An employee is treated for smoke inhalation. Kelly Hayes/Global Okanagan

KELOWNA — Fire forced the evacuation of a Kelowna downtown business early Thursday.

Smoke began to fill Roy’s Shoes, Boots & Repairs on Ellis Street at around 8 a.m..

Owner Jim Belshaw says a stranger alerted him that his business was on fire.

“I was cleaning the sidewalk and a stranger came up and yelled: ‘Get out, get out, there’s a fire.'”

Belshaw says he just redecorated the place and believes the cause was electrical.

One employee was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Damage was mostly limited to smoke.
