WATCH: Okanagan military facilities in perimeter lockdown after soldier shooting in Ottawa

The unprovoked murder of a soldier Wednesday morning at the National War Memorial in Ottawa has had ramifications in the Okanagan.

At the BC Dragoons Armoury in Kelowna and at the Vernon Army Camp there was a heightened sense of awareness among military personnel.

And at both facilities, perimeter lockdowns were put in place with gates that would normally be open during the day being closed and locked.

“All units across Canada today are on a heightened state of vigilance so we’re going to close the gates and let everything cool down a little bit,” says BC Dragoons Operations Officer Captain Jeff Daley.

While the military facilities in the Okanagan were in perimeter lockdown Wednesday, the extra precaution was not taken at some of the other bases across the country.
