WINNIPEG – The lawyer of a woman charged with hiding the remains of six babies in a Winnipeg storage locker says his client is bewildered.
Greg Brodsky said Andrea Giesbrecht, 40, also known as Andrea Naworynski, was initially arrested on multiple murder charges, but so far only faces six counts of concealing a body.
The forensic examination will determine what happens next, Brodsky said.
That process will be complex and could take months, Winnipeg police Const. Eric Hofley said. The investigation is being conducted by the Winnipeg police child abuse unit.
Giesbrecht was renting the storage unit, Hofley said.
It’s not clear if the woman is related to the dead infants, how old they were or how long they were in the storage locker, he said.

There are no homicide charges right now, and police aren’t interviewing any other suspects, Hofley said.
It’s not clear if the deaths were homicides, and the remains are decomposed, police said.
Razmin Mansoub, the president of U-Haul Company of Central Canada, said staff taking inventory of a delinquent locker found the remains on Monday.
Everyone at the company is deeply shocked and saddened by the discovery and will continue to co-operate with police, he said.

The remains don’t appear to be linked to any infants who have been reported missing, Hofley said.
