Dog owners in Coquitlam are being warned to be careful after two dogs ingested what could have been tampered meat and became sick.

On Sept.30, officers responded to a report of a family pet that became sick after eating a found cooked chicken.

It is alleged the dog found a whole cooked chicken in the bushes near the baseball field behind Hazel Trembath Elementary School.

Shortly after, the dog became sick and was vomiting all evening, but eventually recovered.

Investigators believe something similar happened to another dog two months earlier.

There is no evidence to suggest there was poison involved or that the two incidents are linked.

Investigators say they checked the area in question and didn’t find any more cooked meat or suspicious items lying around.

Meanwhile, Coquitlam RCMP are urging owners to take their pets to see a veterinarian if they think their pets have consumed cooked meat of unknown origin because it may be too late by the time the symptoms start showing.

Dog owners are also advised to be vigilant when walking their dogs and to report anything suspicious to the police.
