GRAND FORKS — A man who set fire to two hotels in Grand Forks, destroying one of them, has been sentenced to three years in a federal penitentiary.
In March 2012, flames ripped through the historic Grand Forks Hotel. It was more than 100 years old.
The same night, the nearby Winnipeg Hotel was also set ablaze. Fire fighters managed to save that structure.
Within hours of the two fires, police arrested Christopher James Cusak, 47, and seized a gasoline jerry can from his home.
Cusak was convicted of two counts of arson in relation to an inhabited property.
In addition to the three years imprisonment, Cusak has been banned from possessing firearms for 10 years and must submit a DNA sample.
