UPDATED: Interior Health to open free flu shot clinics

KELOWNA – Flu season is just around the corner and Interior Health (IH) is gearing up to help prevent the spread of influenza.

On Monday, October 27 IH will start administering flu shots for free to those who are more at risk for complications from the disease.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

“Influenza reduces the body’s ability to fight illnesses and infections and it can also increase a person’s risk for developing other serious conditions, including viral or bacterial pneumonia,” says Dr. Rob Parker, Medical Health Officer.

He adds the illness is often confused for less severe viruses that cause common colds or stomach flu.

Those who aren’t eligible for a free shot can still get vaccinated for a fee at physician’s offices, pharmacies and other private providers.

For information about where free public flu clinics will be held, you can check the Immunize BC website.
