TORONTO – A southern California woman had to be rescued from a chimney after getting stuck at the home of a man she had reportedly met online.
Genoveva Nunez-Figueroa, a 30-year-old Thousand Oaks resident, climbed a roof at the 1900 block of Woodside Drive early Sunday morning.
By 5:45 am, police responded to a report of a woman crying in the area.
Nunez-Figueroa was crying because she was stuck in a chimney.
“This woman was in distress,” said neighbour Robert Fisher. “But no one knew where the voice was coming from.”
CBS in Los Angeles reports that the homeowner’s name is Lawrence – but did not want his last name used.
“Having someone in your chimney is kind of a weird thing you wouldn’t expect to come home to,” Lawrence told CBS2’s Laurie Perez.
Firefighters were forced to use heavy tools and dish soap to tear down part of the chimney and wiggle Nunez-Figueroa to safety.
Lawrence also confirmed that he knew the suspect after meeting on the Internet and that this was her second attempt at entry. Reports indicate that Nunez-Figueroa and Lawrence may have been in a prior relationship.
“Which just goes to show you,” he said, “You have to be careful who you meet online.”
