Fatal car crash on Highway 19, near Woss, B.C.

VANCOUVER — A 34-year-old Port McNeill man died in a car accident on Highway 19 last night, near Woss, B.C.

Two off-duty RCMP officers discovered the wreckage. They requested assistance from the Port McNeill RCMP and went to help the victim. They found him on the ground a short distance from his 2003 GMC pickup truck. Sadly, he was dead at the scene. There were no other passengers.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision with the help of the RCMP Traffic Analyst/Re-constructionist Unit. So far, the evidence suggests the truck was traveling southbound on the highway. when the driver failed to navigate a turn in the road and entered a ditch, colliding with a tree. At the time of the crash, the weather was wet with gusty winds. It does not appear any other vehicles were involved.

The man’s name has not yet been released, as police are contacting his family.
