WINNIPEG – Police say they’re not giving up on the case of a young Manitoba woman who disappeared six years ago.

RCMP issued a renewed plea for information Friday on the fate of Amber McFarland, 24, who was last seen early in the morning of October 18, 2008 in Portage La Prairie. RCMP said in 2009 the case was being treated as a homicide.

Surveillance video released by police shows McFarland with two men at a Portage hotel beer vendor. Her car was found in a hotel parking lot, but otherwise little trace of her was ever found.

McFarland’s former boyfriend was one of the men seen in the surveillance video; police searched a property linked to him in 2008 and arrested him and another man in 2009 but both were later released without charge.

“This case is still very much under investigation. We are following up tips at this moment and are asking for any other help that the public can provide to assist us in bringing Amber back to her family. What Amber’s family has endured is unimaginable, and we will continue to aggressively investigate this matter as a homicide,” RCMP Sergeant Dan Barnabe is quoted in a news release. “We have set up a tip line and would ask that the public to call 204-984-6447.”
