Shaw Communications and the Ottawa Convention Centre announce 10-year sponsor deal

TORONTO – The award-winning Ottawa Convention Centre is getting a new identity after a 10-year renaming partnership with Calgary-based Shaw Communications was announced Thursday.

The downtown venue will now be named the “Shaw Centre.”

Shaw Communications CEO Brad Shaw said in a statement “the Shaw Centre reflects our commitment to strengthening our presence with our customers, communities, regulatory and government stakeholders.”

“We are privileged to work with this world-class and award-winning facility, and are eager to showcase the Shaw brand to hundreds of thousands of local, national and international visitors that come to the Shaw Centre every year,” said Shaw.

Participants in the deal said the new agreement will allow the centre to boost its profile through Shaw’s strengths as an Internet and content-experience company.

“This exciting relationship will help position the Shaw Centre and our city for continued growth in the lucrative national and international meetings and conventions marketplace,” said Centre Chair Marc Seaman. “Over the coming decade, the Shaw Centre will leverage the strength of one of Canada’s leading brands and media organizations to enhance and increase its profile and standing as a world class convention facility.”

Under the new relationship visitors to the Shaw Centre will enjoy Shaw Go WiFi – the company’s carrier-grade wifi network – throughout the building with free access available in specific areas.

The Shaw Centre will continue to use ‘Canada’s Meeting Place’ as its descriptor, and will continue to partner with Ottawa Tourism in all future marketing efforts.
