Hunting for deals on Halloween treats

WINNIPEG – With the turkey served and the pumpkin pie devoured, attention now turns to Halloween.

While the candy is free for children, adults are stuck with the bill.

“In our neighbourhood, I can get over 100 kids,” said Nancy Lim-Crompton, who lives in northwest Winnipeg.

She finds she gets the best bang for her buck by handing out potato chips.

A recent survey done by retailmenot.ca found half of Canadians asked planned to hand out candies on Halloween.

Global News decided to find out which is the cheapest place to pick up your sweets.

We went to Superstore, WalMart and Target, searching for a box of 95 mini Cadbury chocolate bars and a 1.5-pound bag of Child Play candy, which is different kinds of Tootsie Pop treats.

The chocolates worked out to be $12.83 at Superstore and WalMart. They cost $14.99 at Target.

The bag of candy is $9.99 at Superstore, $10 at WalMart and $10.49 at Target.

When taxes are factored in, the final price for all the loot was $24.79 at Superstore, $25.80 at WalMart and $28.79 at Target.

If you don’t want to shell out big bucks for chocolate, there are a few deals to make Halloween less scary for your pocketbook.

Suckers are WalMart work out to be three cents each.

Rockets and molasses pieces at Superstore are five cents each.
