Winnipeg’s Tomlinson gets the call from Hockey Canada

WINNIPEG — Jeff Tomlinson has been announced as the head coach of Canada’s national men’s team for the 2014 Deutschland Cup.

The 44-year-old Winnipegger was named to the post by Hockey Canada after spending the past two seasons as head coach of Eisbären Berlin of the Deutschen Eishockey Liga (DEL). Tomlinson’s assistants are Serge Aubin and Mike Stewart.

Tomlinson has extensive experience with the European game as he was also the head coach of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and Düsseldorfer EG.

In his playing days, Tomlinson competed for three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Prince Albert Raiders from 1987-90. He then played two seasons in the East Coast Hockey League and also played nine seasons in Germany and England with the Timmendorf Strand, Berlin Capitals, Manchester Storm and Berlin Polar Bears.

Canada last participated in the Deutschland Cup in 2012, when the team finished fourth. The 2014 Deutschland Cup runs Nov. 7-9 in Munich, Germany.
