A 20-year-old Nanaimo man is facing several charges following an attempted abduction of a teen girl that happened in June.

The abduction happened on June 11 when a 17-year-old girl stopped her car in the rural area of Cedar to help some kittens across the road. As the teen was moving the kittens, Compton allegedly drove up, assaulted her and attempted to drag her back to his car.

Nanaimo Mounties arrested Compton at his home on Oct. 9. He was taken into custody and charged with attempted kidnapping, forcible confinement, choking to overcome, aggravated assault and possession of a stolen property under $5,000.

Police credit their investigators along with numerous tips that came in from the general public with the arrest of Compton.

The 20-year-old appeared in Nanaimo Provincial court this morning and has been remanded until Oct. 28.
