Hotel association working with city to find room for displaced residents

CALGARY-The Calgary Hotel association says that it is in contact with city officials and is in the process of trying to locate hotels for evacuated residents.

On Monday night, 247 hotel rooms were used by those affected by the power outage.

Most of the people that were left without power were able to access downtown hotels over the weekend. Now that business travelers are in town, demand for hotels in central Calgary are in high demand.

The city developed a process to temporarily house displaced residents during the summer floods, so the system was up and running quickly when the power outage hit.

Jon Jackson with the Calgary Hotel Association says that finding hotel rooms for affected people this week in the downtown core is going to be challenging.

“We’re working with all the hotels to find rooms and will continue to focus on hotels that are right near the Ctrain lines to make it was easy as possible for the people who’ve been evacuated”.
