Baruchel, Hawkins among Canada’s Walk of Fame presenters

TORONTO — Jay Baruchel, Wendy Crewson, Ronnie Hawkins, Clara Hughes, Jian Ghomeshi, and Tom Cochrane were announced Tuesday as presenters at the Canada’s Walk of Fame gala on Saturday.

Baruchel will pay tribute to Rachel McAdams and Ghomeshi will honour Ryan Reynolds.

Jason Priestley was previously announced as host of the show.

The gala will be held Oct. 18 at Toronto’s Sony Centre for the Performing Arts and broadcast as a two-hour special on Global and Slice on Dec. 19.

In addition to McAdams and Adams, this year’s recipients are athlete Hayley Wickenheiser, The Band, late musician Jeff Healey and former Supreme Court of Canada justice Louise Arbour.

The show will also honour The Weeknd with the Allan Slaight Award.

Over 50,000 nominations were received from 150 countries, according to organizers.

Canada’s Walk of Fame, founded in 1998, honours people who have excelled in music, film, television, literature, visual and performing arts, science and innovation and sports.

They must have been born in Canada or spent their formative years in the country; have a minimum of 10 years of experience in their field; and have had a national or international impact.

Past recipients include singer Celine Dion, actor Jim Carrey, rock band Guess Who, filmmaker David Cronenberg and supermodel Linda Evangelista.
