KELOWNA, B.C. – There is a lot to be thankful for, especially the delicious food enjoyed by many during the Thanksgiving weekend.
After weeks of preparation, dozens of volunteers gather to serve residents in need at the Kelowna Gospel Mission.
For residents like Stuart Stringer and his roommate Sheila Lingel, a turkey dinner on this holiday wouldn’t be possible without the giving spirit of the over 50 volunteers at the Kelowna Gospel Mission.
“It’s nice to be able to have a meal with a lot of people that I’ve gotten to know here. The staff here have always been great to me and my roommate,” says Stringer.
Stringer and Lingel say they eat at the Gospel Mission almost every day, but it’s about more than just the food.
“We’ve gotten to know the staff here personally and they are like family,” says Lingel.
From noon to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Monday, hundreds will enjoy a traditional holiday meal, available for anyone in the community.
Staff say many who take advantage of the annual Thanksgiving dinner are the working poor and families.
