Find out which story Global Montreal’s viewers had the most to say about on Your Sunday Say:

This week we covered stories about a husky surviving multiple pellet gun shots – a mother’s efforts to make the Meningitis B vaccine universally available in Quebec and the closing of Montreal’s iconic steakhouse Magnan.

But the story that really got your attention was about a young woman who was reportedly sexually assaulted by a taxi driver in NDG.

On Friday Global’s Billy Shields reported on the alleged attack and spoke to police about the investigation.

The 26-year-old was taking a cab home from a downtown bar and claimed the driver made inappropriate remarks, then attacked her by jumping over the seat at her point of destination.

She managed to get away and report the incident to the police.

The story got a lot of reaction on Facebook, Twitter and the Global Montreal website.

What surprised most of you was how common the police say these incidents really are.

Here are just a few of your comments:

Teddy Beyba writes,

“these taxi drivers that take advantage of any woman, sober or had a couple of drinks, or even a few too many, are sick and demented! once identified, they should lose their taxi driver permit, be labelled as a sex offender, as well as face criminal charges! shame on those who ruin the reputation of the many good taxi drivers out there!”

Allison Saunders Cicchetti says,

“it’s pretty sad that we live in a world where we can’t trust anyone. i have to say thanks to the cops for helping me not get assaulted, but what are they doing to make sure that drivers aren’t assaulting their passengers?”

When we asked what Montreal can do to increase taxi safety,

John Coveyduck suggested,

“go back to recording all pickups and drop offs …anyone entering a cab if they don’t see a licensed photo for cab that shows the driver – exit and find one who has legal standing … and text yourself a voice mail with number of cab, description of driver etc etc … including time stamps …”
