WINNIPEG – Professional Irish dancers were at the McConnell school of dance to celebrate their culture with Manitobans Sunday.

“It’s a very prestigious honour to have them here at our studio in Manitoba,” said Hilary Balagus, one of the dancers at the workshop. “We’re just trying to soak in as much as we can.”

The lessons were in held as part of Irish Fest in Winnipeg, which kicked off on Friday. Everything from fundraising events to pub nights were held in local communities as part of the weekend celebration.

A group of Irish dancers from the Echoes of Erin show were on tour in Canada and sharing their techniques with anyone wanting to try.

“There’s some good talent in there,” said Conor Wilsh, one of the dancers from Ireland. “Potentially world champions if they put in the work.”
