HALIFAX – The driver of a car that struck a power pole in Dartmouth has been ticketed, after being arrested by police with help from the K-9 unit.

Halifax Regional Police say a patrol member came across the accident at around 12:10 a.m. Sunday on Prince Albert Road.

The officer immediately noticed two women running from the scene, so he gave chase and arrested both.

“The member at the scene quickly determined there had been a third person in the vehicle as well,” said Sgt. Jeff Carr.

The man, who police believed was the driver, had fled into a nearby wooded area. Several police units came to contain the area and police dogs were brought in to find the 37-year-old man.

“He was subsequently arrested for impaired driving. As a result of the investigation, he was not charged with impaired driving but he does face a 7-day suspension of his driver’s license under the Motor Vehicle Act,” Carr said.

The suspension is for having a blood alcohol level between .05 and .08. The man was also issued a ticket for driving with a revoked license.

Meanwhile, the two female passengers, aged 25 and 35, were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Of the two females, one of them had actually been thrown through the back windshield at the point of impact,” Carr said. “So, very fortunate that there were no serious injuries as a result of this incident.”
