WINNIPEG – Food from Manitobans poured into Winnipeg Saturday for the biggest food drive of the year hosed by Winnipeg Harvest.

“All of these people coming together to give their time to give their donations it kind of lifts the spirit throughout Manitoba,” said Rebecca Trudeau, one of the event associates. “This really makes a difference.”

The 28th annual food drive helped fill shelves full of food for community members in need. Last year a record of 115,008 pounds of food donations were collected. This year the goal is to stock up on even more food.

“We always say here hunger doesn’t take a vacation so throughout the year we’re always searching for donations because we’re helping so many people every month,” said Trudeau.

While Winnipeg Harvest will accept almost any donation, they are especially low on high protein food items including canned fish and poultry as well as brown beans, peanut butter and baby food.
