A routine inspection on the SkyTrain resulted in a slow down for both the Expo and Millenium lines this morning.

Crews found a crack in the switch on the line between the Burnaby-Edmonds Station and the 22nd Street Station. It resulted in the line being shut down for roughly 20 minutes this morning while crews installed a temporary clamp.

The interim fix was done so commuters weren’t caught waiting and tonight workers will return to make a permanent fix to the switch.

Currently the trains will need to slow down to 10 km/hr to go over the area with the temporary switch repair. According to Translink, although the trains normally travel at speeds of more than 60 km/hr, the slowdown should only add a one minute delay in user’s entire commute.

This incident follows another switch problem that had caused commuter chaos in late September. And in July, SkyTrain was down for about five hours due to a circuit board short.
