Semi driver survives major tumble near Vernon

NEAR VERNON — A semi went over a 30 meter bank last night and while the driver didn’t walk away, he is alive, with what are thought to be non life threatening injuries.

It happened about 7 p.m., about two kilometers south of the Salmon River Road turnoff on highway 97 north of Vernon.

The Vernon jaws of life rescue crew were called to cut the man from the cab, then had to do a rope rescue with a basket to get him up the steep bank.

He’s pretty banged up and his big rig is a write off.
