Manitoba cottage country faced with Thanksgiving power outage

WINNIPEG – Power to 6,000 Manitoba Hydro customers will be cut for five hours Friday as the Thanksgiving weekend begins.

Manitoba Hydro has scheduled an outage for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to allow maintenance in the Grand and Victoria Beach areas.

The outage was initially scheduled to last eight hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the duration was shortened amid public outrage.

The date was chosen because there’s a school in service that day, so children won’t be in class, a Manitoba Hydro spokeswoman said.

The repairs will fix a pole damaged by fire in May, she said.
