HALIFAX – A 30-year-old woman has been found in the woods near North West Arm Drive after getting lost walking with her dog Tuesday evening.
Police said a woman called 911 at 7:36 p.m. saying she was lost on a wooded trail. Initially police and canine units, responded to the area but after three hours of searching they called in ground search and rescue as well.
Just before 11 p.m. Sgt. Jeff Carr said she was located by a canine unit, and was okay.
“I’m not sure how familiar she is with the trail system but she became lost, she couldn’t find her way out of the woods,” said Sgt. Jeff Carr speaking at the scene. “As she described it to us it seemed like she had been walking in circles for some time and eventually it was dark, she couldn’t find her way out.”
Police were able to maintain contact with the woman throughout the night because she had a cellphone with her. However, because it wasn’t a smartphone Sgt. Carr said it was more difficult to pin point her exact location.
While the woman was lost Sgt. Carr said she could hear the sirens of police cars nearby but couldn’t find her way to them.
“Fortunately its a nice night for the middle of October, its warm, its not raining so we’re lucky, she’s lucky in that sense,” he said.
