RCMP charge man in officer-involved shooting

REDCLIFF – Thirty-three-year-old Bernard Norman is being charged with assault on a peace officer following a shooting in Redcliff.

Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was called in to investigate after an early morning incident at the Redcliff RCMP detachment on September, 29.

According to investigators, RCMP officers were approaching a man when he pointed what appeared to be a firearm.

As a result, the officer shot and injured the man. He was sent to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

ASIRT officers seized the man’s firearm, a black Smith and Wesson 177-calibre BB gun.

Norman is now facing charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and assault on a peace officer.

Norman’s first court appearance has not been scheduled because he is still in hospital.
