- One person has been taken into custody as a person of interest and the search is ongoing for further suspects after shots rang out behind an apartment building near Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School in northwest Toronto Monday afternoon.
- John Tory and Doug Ford are statistically tied with three weeks left in the Toronto mayoral campaign, according to a new poll. A Forum Research survey conducted on Monday reveals Tory has 39 per cent support among voters compared to 37 per cent for Ford and 22 per cent for Olivia Chow.
- The Toronto Foundation has released the 2014 edition of its Vital Signs report which examines the economic, social, and health trends of Toronto. The report indicates the city is world-class and near the top in a number of indicators.
- A portion of Yonge Street at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square will be off-limits to traffic for a National Hockey League kick-off event scheduled for Wednesday. Yonge Street from Dundas Street to Queen Street will be closed as of 10 a.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.
- Two new studies have found that voice-activated smartphones and dashboard infotainment systems may be making the distracted-driving problem worse instead of better.
- A new broad-based study of most of Canada’s grade eight students suggests the vast majority of them take a solid grasp of science with them into their high school years.
