Stray bullet narrowly misses 8 year old in northeast Calgary home

CALGARY-  A very close call for one family in the northeast. This weekend, a bullet crashed into their living room, missing their eight-year old boy by less than half a meter.

The family believes the bullet may be linked to a murder several blocks away.

A broken window and a bullet hole in their wall are unsettling reminders of how close eight year old Aiden Kaddoura came to being in harm’s way.

At around 10:05 AM Saturday morning, police cordoned off a portion of the 300 block of Manora Road northeast, after bullets hit two homes.

“It’s still unknown where the bullets came from but the Kaddoura’s believe it may be a stray round from a murder that took place around the same time, several blocks away,” Sgt. Rob Davidson said.

“At this time we don’t know if they’re related. So we’ll be investigating that one and determine the relationship if there is one between the two,” Davidson said.

Neighbours in the area say they have little information and are concerned for their safety.

“Scared yeah, scared. And my nephews were sleeping because it was early morning.” Katie Perrault said. “If it had been aimed in another direction it could have been my house and it’s a two story so it’s kind of high up there.”

At the murder scene, a bullet hole can be seen in a truck.

The victim, a man in his 30’s or 40’s died on Saturday en route to hospital after being shot.

Surveillance cameras dot the outside of the home where the man died. Neighbors say a couple moved in a short time ago.

So far no arrests have been made.

An autopsy is expected to take place early this week.

The homicide unit is expected to release more information on Monday.
