FREDERICTON – New Brunswick’s premier-designate says layoffs announced by Moosehead Breweries are a reminder why his government’s priorities need to be jobs and the economy.

Brian Gallant’s comments come a day after Moosehead said it will cut about 70 production positions at its facility in Saint John in June.

The company blames the decision on the loss of a major contract.

There are about 144 hourly employees working at the brewery now.

Gallant says information sessions will be held on Monday and Wednesday for the affected employees to outline what government services and other supports are available to help them.
