WATCH: Penticton politicians depicted as super villains

PENTICTON, BC — On the silver screen, they’re Batman’s greatest foes.

But in the latest lampoon of Penticton politics, the current mayor and mayor candidates are depicted as super villains, as the city’s greatest enemies.

Mayoral candidate John Vassilaki as Two-Face; mayoral candidate Andrew Jakubeit as Bane and the current mayor, Gary Litke as the Joker.

They’re all taking it with a grain of salt.

“I’m the opposite of Two-Face. I am very consistent with the way I vote at city hall, and I don’t flip flop,” says Vassilaki.

Jakubeit says he likes being compared to Bane, because the character is seen as “strong and very intelligent.” But he doesn’t like how Penticton is being portrayed.

“It is disturbing that someone looks at Penticton as a hell hole,” he explains.

Mayor Litke is out of town, but says he has seen the posters.

He says he’s flattered that he’s been illustrated as the joker and says these types of lampoons are common before an election.

“It’s just one of those things that happen every election,” Litke says.

Councillors Vassilaki and Jakubeit are the only ones to announce their mayoral candidacy, while Litke hasn’t said if he’s seeking re-election.

The super villain poster isn’t the only campaign that’s taking a stab at Penticton politics.

A new website called: http://www.deadguy.ca, has a black and white photo of a man with the words “I’ve been dead for 80 years, and I’m running for mayor of Penticton” — suggesting perhaps that a dead person could do a better job at running the city.

The mayor says it’s in poor taste.
