4 things to do with a Centraide umbrella

MONTREAL — Have you been wondering why Centraide has been trending on Twitter in Montreal?

The charity kicked off its fundraising campaign with over 20,000 Montrealers taking part in its 20th annual “March of 1,000 Umbrellas.”

Partnering companies, organizations, charities, volunteers and the public came together for a colourful parade through the streets of downtown Montreal.

Centraide is hoping to raise $57 million before the end of December. The charity says that about 1 in 7 people in the Montreal area benefit in some way through the groups it supports.

Over 23,000 volunteers will be hitting the streets to ask for donations from businesses, groups and the general public.
