Florida cop suspended after Tasering unarmed woman in back

TORONTO – Tallahassee Police have placed an officer on administrative leave after he was caught on video Tasering an unarmed 61-year-old woman in the back.

The video of Tuesday’s incident was shot by a local resident.

According to police, officers who responded to citizen complaints of alleged drug deals detained three suspects for investigation.

Police said Viola Young approached an officer to inquire about the arrests and was Tasered.

The video shows Young had her back turned to Officer Terry Mahan when he deployed the Taser. The 61-year-old fell face first to the ground.

“They just Tased a lady for nothing,” a man is heard saying in the video. “They wonder why they’re hated.”

Police said an officer advised the woman to stay away from the scene before Mahan attempted to arrest her.

“Based on the video, I have enough concerns to call for an internal investigation and have put Officer Mahan on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” said Police Chief Michael DeLeo.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. We want to be transparent with the community by sharing what we can at this point, including the video.”
