WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets inching closer to it’s final 23-man roster as it cut five more players on Wednesday.  The Jets assigning John Albert, Julien Brouillette, Connor Hellebuyck, Carl Klingberg and J.C. Lipon to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League. Both Brouillette and Klingberg must first clear waivers before they can report to the Jets top farm club, meaning any of the other 29 teams can pick them up without giving compensation.

The Jets most recent first round draft pick Nikolaj Ehlers and 19-year-old forward Nic Petan survived the latest round of cuts. With Hellebuyck getting demoted, only three goalies remain with the Jets: Ondrej Pavelec, Michael Hutchinson and Danny Taylor. The latest cuts leaves 32 players still in training camp with only two exhibition games remaining. The Jets play in Calgary on Thursday with the rematch scheduled for Saturday back in Winnipeg to wrap up the team’s preseason schedule.

The Jets must name a 23-man roster prior to their season opener next Thursday in Glendale against the newly named Arizona Coyotes.
