WATCH: Dog rescued after falling into hot tar

WATCH ABOVE: Animal Aid Unlimited India has released a moving video of a dog – covered in hot tar and stuck to the ground – cleaned up after hours of massaging vegetable oil into the thick layer of tar.

TORONTO – Video footage of a dog being rescued after he had fallen into a pool of hot tar in India is going viral as it pulls on the heartstrings of those on social media.

Posted on YouTube by Animal Aid Unlimited—a leading street animal rescue centre in India— the footage shows the dog smothered in tar and unable to move.

“He was stuck to the ground,” said the organization officials.  “A passerby saw him struggling and called our help-line.”

The animal is now recovering after a handful of volunteers massaged vegetable oil into the thick layer of tar that covered him, a process that took three hours over two days.

“Every day we respond to 15-25 calls on our emergency helpline and rescue more than 3,500 animals each year,” said a statement on the group’s website. “Our ultimate goal is equality and protection of all animals and a complete end to the use and abuse of animals. We are working for the day that every dog, donkey, cow, pig, fish and mouse can live their lives in freedom.”
