Woman struck and killed by streetcar on St. Clair Ave

TORONTO – A woman was killed by a TTC streetcar on St. Clair Avenue West Tuesday afternoon.

She was hit near the intersection with Keele Street at approximately 4 p.m.

Emergency crews pulled the woman from underneath the streetcar, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mayor Rob Ford, who recently left hospital after undergoing his first round of chemotherapy for a rare form of cancer, was photographed on his phone near the accident scene.

Traffic in the area could be slow for several hours as police investigate what led to the incident.

The 512 St. Clair streetcar is turning back at Lansdowne as a result of the crash.
