Demolition of New West parkade, new condo towers proposed

The New Westminster waterfront could be in for a new look, but some are worried about how that will impact the city.

New West City Hall is proposing some big development plans that start with tearing down half of the Waterfront Parkade on Quayside Drive.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Three waterfront towers with 800 units will be built on a parking lot next to the river, and south of the train tracks.

Supporters say this would compliment other redevelopments like nearby Pier Park.

But others say the new structures will add to density problems in the area and create traffic gridlock.
