WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets made their first round of cuts Wednesday since the start of training camp, sending six players back to junior.

Goalie Eric Comrie (Tri-City), defencemen Jan Kostalek (Rimouski) and Nelson Nogier (Saskatoon) and forwards Axel Blomqvist (Victoria), Chase De Leo (Portland) and Jimmy Lodge (Saginaw) have all been reassigned. None of the six players who were demoted played in the Jets exhibition game on Monday.

First-round draft pick Nikolaj Ehlers, 18, and Josh Morrissey and Nic Petan, both 19, are among those who get to stick around a while longer.

The Jets have 45 players left in camp. The coaching staff has plenty of decisions still to make with the team needing to name a 23-man roster prior to the start of the regular season.

The Jets play the second of their seven exhibition games Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oilers.
