VANCOUVER – Residents and visitors of Richmond’s low-tide mud flats on the south arm of the Fraser River may have seen an unusual sight Sunday morning.
A driver had taken his Jeep out on the flats to do some doughnuts, but the Jeep went too far out and got stuck.
The tide was already on its way in and despite their best efforts, the occupants had to retreat to shore and the Jeep, reportedly with Washington State plates, was left to the rising water.
Cpl. Stephanie Ashton with the Richmond RCMP said the vehicle went too far out for tow trucks to remove.
Photos of the submerged Jeep went viral on social media.
The driver was fully responsible for the action of getting it stuck and it is incumbent upon that individual to pay the costs of removal,” said Ashton in an email.
The Jeep was removed at some point on Monday morning.
No charges were laid by police, but no doubt the driver is suitably embarrassed by what happened.
