WINNIPEG – Police officers flooded a North Kildonan neighbourhood Tuesday afternoon after a report of people seen carrying weapons.
Several police units were in the area of Rothesay Street and Sutton Avenue starting at about 2 p.m. Police cruisers were also seen blocking the street in front of Chief Peguis Junior High School.
Students at River East Collegiate also reported seeing police officers with guns drawn near their school.
A police spokesperson said the schools were not directly involved in the incident, but officers were in the area after a report of suspects armed with weapons like “baseball bats.”
A Global News photographer saw a number of individuals being handcuffed, but a police spokesperson said he had no information on arrests. It wasn’t known if any weapons were found.
