TORONTO – A Virginia teacher at a private preschool was arrested and charged for allegedly biting a toddler as punishment after he had bitten another teacher.
Police said Monday that 24-year-old Theresa Brown faces assault and battery charges after she bit the 13-month-old on his shoulder earlier this month, leaving a visible mark, at a private school in Woodbridge, Virginia.
It is unknown whether the child needed medical attention.
The school’s owner, Nadia Choudry, has also been charged with failing to report the offence to authorities after a witness allegedly notified school administrators of the incident.
An anonymous caller reported the incident a day later, according to police.
Under state law, day care workers, teachers, health professionals and others are required to report suspected abuse and neglect to social services.
According to Reuters, Brown is no longer listed as a faculty member. School officials declined to comment.
