BOIS BLANC, N.B. – RCMP are investigating after a “potentially explosive device” was found in the driveway of a Bois Blanc, N.B. residence.
Officials say the suspect drilled a hole into the centre of a firewood log and inserted a can containing highly flammable material. The resident of the home found the piece of wood and planned to use it as firewood.
When the resident tried to split the log, the can was discovered. They then reported the can to police last Saturday.
In a release, RCMP said the investigation continues with the assistance of the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit.
“We take the discovery of a device like this very seriously,” said Sgt. Marc Beaupré of the Grand Tracadie-Sheila RCMP. “If the device had been exposed to heat and exploded, people could have been seriously injured or killed.”
