WINNIPEG – The New Flyer bus-manufacturing plant in Transcona was evacuated early Thursday because of a fire in the building.

Heavy smoke also forced fire crews out of the building.

Paul Soubry, the president and CEO of New Flyer, told CJOB News the fire, which was sparked with a forklift, was contained.

Fire crews remain at the building on Kernaghan Avenue near Plessis Road.

Employees were sent home and told to return later in the morning to find out whether they’d be able to work, a Global News cameraman said from the scene.
