Should all dogs be allowed on transit buses if they’re leashed and muzzled?

VANCOUVER – Should dogs be allowed on transit buses if they’re leashed and muzzled?

The Raging Grannies have convinced the Victoria Transit Commission to consider the idea.

Daphne Taylor was one of the people who spearheaded a petition in favour of expanding transit access to all dogs, at off- peak times only.

They collected more than 800 signatures and so the Transit Commission has asked its staff to investigate how other cities handle dogs on transit.

“It’s mainly to follow the examples of other cities as well that have also allowed dogs on buses,” said Taylor. “There seems to be no reason why that would not be allowed here in Victoria.”

The Victoria Transit Commission said currently the pet has to be small enough to fit into a carrier and it has to lay on the passenger’s lap.

The report is set to come back in December.
