UPDATE (1:10 pm ET): Many users are reporting that service has been restored to Gmail. It is still unclear what caused the short outage.

TORONTO – Gmail appeared to be experiencing a brief service outage on Wednesday.

Users began reporting that Google’s mail service was down shortly after 12:30 p.m. ET. Twitter users were using the hashtag #Gmaildown to complain of the outage.

According to outage reporting website Down Right Now, Gmail is experiencing a “Likely service disruption.” However, Google’s App Status Dashboard shows Gmail’s status as “No Issues.”

The outage appears to be affecting many Canadian users; however it is still unclear just how widespread the issue is at this time. One user told Global News the service was working in Saskatchewan, but many Ontario residents tweeted they were unable to access their accounts.
