Each September 10,000 rubber ducks race in the Halifax Harbour as part of The Alzheimer Duck Derby. At 6:45 we’ll learn more about the event happening this Sunday from Beth Jackson of the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia and get a personal story from Peter Gwynne-Timothy of Steele Hyundai.
At 7:15 we’ll talk with Sunday Miller from the Africville Museum. She’s helping to produce a new fundraising play at Alderney Landing that looks at the history of Africville, and specifically how it started out as one of the first communities that allowed black refugees to live freely following the War of 1812.
We’ll also tell you about a one-of-a-kind silent art auction happening in October. The interesting thing about the Timeraiser silent auction is you don’t bid money for the local artwork -you bid volunteer hours instead. We’ll get the details at 7:45.
At 8:15 we’ll learn more about a unique event coming our region for the first time that’s sure to make some waves. “They Will Surf Again” is an award-winning event that empowers people with mobility disabilities to experience freedom and mobility by riding a wave. We’ll talk with a local organizer along with Scott Jones who will be hitting the water this weekend.
