KELOWNA — The 34th annual Terry Fox run hit the grass at Mission sportsfield in Kelowna Sunday. Roughly 1,400 participants and 125 volunteers came out to support the event, which raised a phenomenal $101,000.
It hits close to home for one of the events’ organizers.
“This is actually my tenth year as a cancer survivor, so it’s kind of a special year for me,” says Shane Worman. He has helped with the event for the past five years and says he does it to give hope to those still fighting the disease.
According to the Terry Fox Foundation, more than $650-million has been raised to help find a cure, with 84 cents of every dollar going towards research.
“Cancer research has worked,” says Worman. “Without it, I wouldn’t be here.”
