CALGARY- Dozens of Calgarians gathered at City Hall Saturday for a rally against ISIS and other radical groups recruiting young Calgarians.
The rally aims to raise awareness about the violent actions of ISIS.
Christianne Boudreau’s son, Damian Clairmont died fighting with the Sunni militant group in Syria.
She says it’s very important to speak out about the radicalization of youth in our city.
“People need to understand and be aware that it’s out there. that was the biggest thing for our family, we didn’t know. We didn’t even know what to watch for. We didn’t stand a chance.” Boudreau said.
“At least with the awareness out there, it starts alerting people to start looking for signs and hopefully reach out for help,” Boudreau said.
Calgary Imam Syed Soharwardy, founder of “Muslims against terrorism” said the rally is also to ask the Canadian government to get more involved.
“We are also asking the Canadian government to stop the recruitment of Muslim youth in Canada that is taking place in our universities, in or colleges, in our communities openly and nobody’s trying to stop it.”
