“Just don’t vote for me”: Meet three long-shot candidates for Toronto’s top job

Despite the Ford family’s last-minute twists and turns, there is some certainty on Toronto’s mayoral ballot.

Dozens of candidates remain on the list, most of them entirely unknown, each with their own reason to run.

At 19 years of age, Morgan Baskin is the youngest candidate vying to be Toronto’s chief magistrate.

She wants to raise awareness of youth issues, and hopes her candidacy will encourage more young people to get involved.

“All the time” she says when asked if people tell her she’s too young to be mayor, “but I think it’s important to show youth can have a voice.”

Just as serious, but in a completely silly way, is Dave McKay, better known as Sketchy the Clown.

Sketchy, in full grease paint with a red nose, boasts of his campaign losing supporters every day.

Weaving his message in, he urges voters to find a candidate who reflects their views and vote, vote, vote.

“Just don’t vote for me” he jokes.

Carlie Ritch works as a dominatrix in Toronto, and is fond of saying she would bring more discipline to city hall.

Her solution for the constant bickering at council sessions? Ball-gags.

Putting handcuffs on this reporter as a lark, Ritch then discovers she doesn’t have the key and leaves to go home to fetch the key.

Forty five minutes later she returns key in hand.

“You must give me good press” she said.

One way, perhaps to lock up some political support.
