Doug Ford to run for mayor: Twitter reacts

WATCH: Global News election panel discusses how this shift will affect the race

TORONTO — Last November, the now-defunct Toronto weekly The Grid used three words to describe Doug Ford: “Worst. Brother. Ever.”

In an article by Edward Keenan, the mayor’s brother was described as “defiant, bombastic, on the attack, and full of wild ideas.”

In a May 2013 report, The Globe and Mail alleged Doug Ford sold hashish for years in the 1980s.

“Ten people who grew up with Doug Ford – a group that includes two former hashish suppliers, three street-level drug dealers and a number of casual users of hash – have described in a series of interviews how for several years Mr. Ford was a go-to dealer of hash,” read an article by Greg McArthur and Shannon Kari.

Doug, who has never been convicted of drug-related offences, denied the allegations.

Not surprisingly, Friday’s announcement that Doug is entering the mayor’s race in place of his ailing brother — and that Rob will run for council in his former ward — sparked mixed reactions on social media. Here is a sample:
