IN THE NEWS…
- Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will undergo an MRI today to determine the exact nature of his condition and the results won’t be known for about a week. Ford has also yet to say whether he’ll continue his campaign for re-election. Candidates have until 2 p.m. Friday to either enter or withdraw from the municipal election campaign.
- It’s really too early to know what the mayor has and whether it’s a form of cancer. The reality is that there are hundreds of questions that still require an answer in order to make a diagnosis.
- A South African judge on Friday found Oscar Pistorius guilty of culpable homicide in the shooting death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and declared him not guilty of murder. Prosecutors said they were disappointed by the ruling but would decide on whether to appeal only after sentencing.
- There will be a number of road and TTC subway closures this weekend. The Yonge-University-Spadina line will be closed between St. Andrew and Union station on Sept. 13 to 14 for platform construction. Meanwhile, several road closures will be in effect due to special events across the city.
