Kids cancer charities whip up support with sweet online challenge

CALGARY- Pediatric cancer charities hope people will follow up the summer’s ALS ice bucket challenge with a face full of whipped cream.

“A group of parents in central Florida whose children are or have battled pediatric cancer were trying to come up with an idea we could implement for September, which is childhood cancer awareness month,” explains Jeremy Chambers, the challenge co-founder.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

The group came up with the Whipping Childhood Cancer Challenge. The idea is to take face full of whip cream, post a video of the event online and donate money to pediatric cancer charity near you.

“We were following them on Facebook and saw they wanted charities to get involved so we applied,” says Shonlie Stadnyk, founder of Believe in the Gold, a Calgary-based charity that raises money for pediatric cancer research and support for families. “We did the ice bucket challenge before, but I’m hoping this will create the same hype and awareness.”
